General Ice Thickness Guidelines For New, Clear Ice

* 2 inches or less: Stay off!
* 4 inches: Walking, skating, ice fishing
* 5 inches: ATV or snowmobile
* 8-12 inches: Car or small pickup
* 12-15 inches: Medium truck

1. Ice seldom freezes or melts uniformly. Check ice frequently with an ice chisel, ice auger or even a cordless drill and long bit.
2. If you break though the ice, a pair of ice claws can help you get out of the water.
3. Roll away from the hole before attempting to stand.

Snowflakes facts:
1. Snow crystals can be grouped into more than 80 different types/categories.
2. Shapes of snowflakes depend on weather temperature and the moisture in the air at the time they are forming.
3. Research shows that shapes vary. They can look like columns, dendrites, needles, plates and the shapes are quite irregular.
4. Most snowflakes have six sides.
