3 - in Law: a person to whom property or power is entrusted for the benefit of another
5 - personal behavior; way of acting; deportment
8 - a formal installation in an office, position or post
10 - made or carried out in good faith; genuine; authentic; real; without deception or fraud
12 - to bring down to a smaller size, amount or price; to demote
14 - a means of winning over or attracting; enticement
15 - strict observance of promises and duties; loyalty; conjugal faithfulness
16 - behavior not conforming to prevailing standards or laws; malfeasance, esp. by governmental or military officials
DOWN
2 - road or passageway built on a series of short spans or arches over a valley or lower routes
4 - artificial channel for conducting water over a distance from a remote site
6 - an alliance between persons, parties, states etc. united for some purpose
7 - having strong beliefs or full assurance; sure of oneself and one's abilities
9 - communicated in trust; imparting private matters; entrusted with secrets
11 - pertaining to the nature of a union of states under a central government; of a league or compact between nations or states
13 - to take away or subtract from a total
Here is a supplemental list of 6 "FID/FED" and 2 "DUC/DUCT" words NOT in the crossword but ones you should know. An additional exercise would include looking up definitions of these 6 words and using each in a sentence!
